Cats Or Cat Owners? Who's the One To Be Trained?

Understanding Your Cat

It would not be hard to prove that the harmonious coexistence of cats and their owners depends greatly on how well the latter know the natural tendencies and behaviour of their cats way in advance of bringing them home. Training cats once they have been brought home is a highly challenging task.

The more knowledgeable we are about our cat's needs, weaknesses and natural behaviours, the more fun training and cat care becomes.

Training a cat is an adventure that demands a huge responsibility and educating cat owners would also help render the process smoother.

Most kittens seem irresistibly cute and fun but before bringing them home you have to do your homework. It is important to have, at least, some basic knowledge about training our pets in some aspects that would render our coexistence more pleasant.

Training Your Cat

First of all, cat owners must train and educate themselves before bringing a cat home.

It takes much more than common sense to deal with some cat behaviours that for humans may seem unacceptable while completely natural for our pets especially at their early stages of life.

Cat Training Is About Playing Safe

Cats are playful by nature and need social interaction. Cats need a lot of playtime so think also of adequate toys and moments to share and have fun together.

Real problems may start when your cat begins to chew on things, scratch on your favourite sofa, or simply soothes its needs or urinates away from the litter box.

Make sure your house is kitten proof and, at all times, tidy and organized to avoid the cat from picking up your clothes or ruining your plants.

Kittens are very curious and almost anything that moves calls it attention. Cats explore with their touch but also by chewing and smelling. Cats would chew on almost anything they find on their way like cords, cables, small objects, curtains.

Have for them enough chew toys that would not only keep them away from your things around the house but also help with the development of the kitten’s gums and teeth.

Think in advance about the feeding options for your kitty. You need to research healthy types of food. Make sure to also grow your kitten some of their own grass because it helps with their digestive system. Reward the cat with a treat during the training and when it is showing some good behaviour. Small cat food items that your cat has not had before make good treats for training. Just make sure to use small healthy treats with a good tasting to your cat, liver treats are generally good for cats.

A Matter of Cats Territory

Cats are very territorial have exceptional smelling abilities. Cats would scratch or rub itself up on the floor or against a door or a piece of furniture simply to leave its scent in those places to mark their territory. If any other animal comes by along that area it will know at once that this is some other cat's territory .

Cats, not always, intend to drive you on your nerves when they start spraying or peeing around the house. The reason may well be that not know any better yet and need to be trained.

An important part of training a cat to use the litter box is providing it with the right environment and conditions. A completely or relatively quiet place with some privacy ( if your house allows for it) would be best. Never place the litter box near where your cat eats or drinks. Clean the box as frequently as possible and make sure that the litter is always dry. If this behaviour persists then, go see a veterinarian because it could also be a medical condition that needs proper treatment. Stressed - out cats and male cats not yet neutered tend to spray around more frequently.

Constructive Support for your Cat

Constructive support will help you and your cat with training and always keep in mind that cats are like children that learn by repetition and patience.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to  to understand the best possible way what our pets try to convey before making them understand us.

In a nutshell, be sure to keep potentially dangerous objects out of your cat's reach and cords preferably unplugged. As with a baby, you must keep a close eye on your kitten to make sure that it is safe at all times.
